CrossVegas 2013
CrossVegas
is the biggest cyclocross race in America. The night-time race takes
place in September each year at the Desert Breeze Soccer Complex in Las
Vegas, Nevada, just minutes from the famous Vegas Strip.
CrossVegas
has seen impressive growth since its inaugural race in 2007, and each
year attracts an increasingly elite field of U.S. and foreign racers as
well as over 10,000 spectators. Despite its relatively short history, CrossVegas has quickly ascended to the top of the international cylcocross racing scene and now boasts the accolade of being America's biggest cyclocross race.
The race is rated as a Category 1 on the International Cyclocross calendar, one of only seven Category 1 cross races in North America. In 2011, participants from 11 nations competed and the entire men's elite podium was swept by non-U.S. athletes
CrossVegas is owned and produced by Watts Marketing headed by Brook Watts.
Watts, a former promotional agency and event planning professional, has
over 30 years experience producing sporting events with a focus on
cycling that extends back to his production of the 1978 U.S. National
Championship in Austin, Texas. Watts was elected in 2011 to the
Cyclocross Management Committee of USA Cycling and is a member of AIOCC,
the association of international cyclocross organizers.
Watts
himself is an avid cyclist who proudly – or embarrassingly – claims to
have cyclocross shoes older than any current professional racer. Watts'
lifelong passion for cycling is infectious as he continuously raises
the bar to produce an exciting event that racers and spectators alike
look forward to year after year.
